Twenty- one years ago John C. Kitchings, founder of Collins Lock and Safe, Inc., looked at his wife and asked where she wanted to live. She took out a map, pointed to Brunswick and said with a smile, “Right there, by the beach.”
John Kitchings had been in the security field much of his adult life, spending over 20 years in burglar- fire alarm installation and sales. He later joined his brother, Les Kitchings, in his business at Dixie Lock and Safe, Inc. in Martinez, GA. Dixie Lock and Safe grew to three locations with Les’ sons, Leslie ‘Bo’ Kitchings (Aiken, SC) and David Lampp (Thompson, GA) overseeing the new sights and his youngest son, Mike Kitchings, would eventually take over the Martinez location.
Les Kitchings, now retired, and John worked together for several years before John decided he wanted to have his own lock shop. John would not open near his brother’s or nephews’ offices. So after researching the area, John and his wife Joanne moved to Brunswick in May of 1994. Opening in June of 1994, Collins Lock and Safe, Inc. has called the Golden Isles home ever since.
Collins is truly a family owned and operated business. Although, John C. Kitchings passed away in November of 2005, it still operates with Joanne Kitchings, his wife, at the helm. Her daughter, Melissa Ridener and son-in-law, David Ridener along with 7other long time, loyal employees have continued the business that John envisioned.
Collins Lock and Safe, Inc. celebrated twenty years in the Golden Isles during the summer of 2014. We’d like to thank all of those who have made our progress possible. And as we continue to strive towards service excellence for our community, we look forward to serving the Golden Isles for many years to come.
